ULTFARMS Hands-On Algae Workshop in Nykøbing

On 11-12 September 2025ULTFARMS partners and stakeholders gathered at DTU Aqua in Nykøbing Mors, Denmark for a workshop dedicated to algae cultivation techniques and offshore innovation. The event brought together experts from research institutions, industry, and project partners to explore recent developments in offshore algae aquaculturethrough presentations, practical sessions, and site visits.

Day one focused on propagation, seeding, and harvesting techniques for species such as Saccharina latissima and Palmaria palmata. Partners shared insights into semi-automated systems and technical achievements from ongoing trails, including nearshore tests and submersible algae farm concepts.

Day two explored Ulva growth trials at FuE and fast measurement methods, followed by discussions on associated regions and a lab tour with a visit to the Limfjord cultivation site.

This workshop was more than a technical exchange – it reinforced ULTFARMS’ mission to develop sustainable, nature-inclusive aquaculture solutions integrated into offshore wind farms. By combining practical experience with scientific expertise, the Danish pilot contributes to the project’s overarching goals of environmental compatibility, economic viability, and spatial integration.
