Pilot Overview
The Samsø South offshore wind farm, operated by Wind Estate, has been identified as a suitable site for the integration of aquaculture activities in Danish offshore wind farms. The pilot aims to investigate the production potential of commercially viable LTA species in the Baltic Sea basin and evaluate existing cultivation technologies in offshore conditions. The pilot focuses on the operational costs and commercial aspects of operating in an offshore wind area. As the wind park operator has applied for an expansion license, this pilot assesses the steps of multi-use in the planning stages.
Pilot's key points:
- Assessing LTA production potential in the pilot area.
- Operation by a commercial farmer to evaluate business case for production in an offshore wind area.

PILOT'S CHALLENGES
– The main challenge is understanding the production potential of commercially viable LTA species given the complicating saline gradients present within the Baltic domain, eider duck predation, and regulatory/area-use issues of cultivating in an offshore wind area.
