Hybrid Workshop Monitoring strategies of the Pilots and technical solutions for remote energy production (wave energy converter)

Kiel, Germany – 6th of June 2024

The recent workshop held online and in person at Kiel brought together the leading researchers and industry experts from the ULTFARMS pilots Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany to discuss significant advancements in marine monitoring and offshore technology.  The event, organized by R & D Centre University of Applied Sciences Kiel GmbH, provided a platform for sharing progress and addressing challenges in marine environmental monitoring and offshore technology.

The workshop opened with a welcome address and an introduction round, fostering a collaborative atmosphere among participants. Following this, representatives from each ULTFARMS pilot  shared updates on their respective monitoring strategies and technical developments.

A key highlight of the workshop was a presentation by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Keindorf from the University of Applied Sciences Kiel , who showcased the development of a wave energy converter. Prof. Keindorf’s presentation detailed the converter’s design and potential applications, underscoring its promise for sustainable energy production from ocean waves.

Following the presentation, participants engaged in a lab tour and witnessed a demonstration of a small model wave energy converter, gaining a hands-on understanding of its functionality and potential impact.

Throughout the workshop, networking sessions facilitated open discussions among participants, enabling the exchange of ideas and fostering cross-border collaboration. Attendees explored synergies, discussed the challenges of marine monitoring, and shared best practices for data collection and technology integration.

The event concluded with a wrap-up session that summarised key takeaways and outlined future collaboration opportunities. Participants left with a renewed commitment to advancing marine monitoring and wave energy solutions, leveraging shared knowledge and resources to address environmental challenges.

Selected presentations will be available for download soon.
