ULTFARMS Joins EU Expert Workshop on Offshore Solar & Wind
In April 2025, ULTFARMS participated in a highly productive Subject Matter Expert Workshop organised by the European Marine Board under the BAMBOO Project in Brussels.
The event gathered 24 leading experts from across Europe to examine the environmental and social impacts of large-scale offshore solar deployment and its interaction with offshore wind development. Through open dialogue and collaborative brainstorming, the workshop created an important platform for identifying common challenges, exchanging knowledge, and generating new ideas.
For ULTFARMS, this exchange provided valuable insights directly relevant to our work on offshore multi-use, particularly in understanding how emerging offshore solar technologies may integrate with existing offshore wind and low-trophic aquaculture operations.
Key outcomes from the workshop included:
- Shared concerns about cumulative environmental impacts and monitoring needs
- New ideas for combining offshore solar and wind technologies
- Strengthened collaboration between countries and projects across Europe
This workshop reinforced how EU-wide knowledge sharing between projects like ULTFARMS and BAMBOO accelerates progress towards more sustainable, innovative, and coordinated offshore strategies.
