SUMMARY:5th Baltic MSP Forum - Session 9: Effective Use of Space for a Sustainable Blue Economy
DESCRIPTION:Session 9: Effective Use of Space for a Sustainable Blue Economy: Baltic Approaches to Multi-Use in Marine and Coastal Areas\nWith growing spatial demands from offshore energy\, marine nature protection\, and maritime security sectors\, clearly defined solutions to enable their co-existence through exclusive or multi-use option in sea space are needed.\nCross-sectoral coordination – both at sea and along the coast – is fundamental; for example\, ports and coastal communities may find new opportunities through integrated land-sea planning for multi-use. The session will focus on how to manage overlapping spatial claims\, reduce conflicts\, and ultimately implement the Sustainable Blue Economy by making better\, smarter use of shared marine and coastal space. \nWhy this session? Spatial efficiency helps balance competing interests and enables coexistence\, supporting sustainable development. Multi-use solutions reduce single-use footprints and foster cross-sector synergies and innovations. \nSession aim: To showcase practical solutions\, existing planning and governance approaches\, share lessons learned that support development towards spatial efficiency and multi-use in MSP. \nThis session will explore: \n\nHow can the limited sea space be realized efficiently through MSP and other governance frameworks in the Baltic Sea Region?\nThe session will draw on studies and experience from the EU\, Germany\, Sweden\, Lithuania\, and Finland.\nWhat governance and planning approaches support more spatially efficient use of marine and coastal space?\nWhat lessons can be drawn from recent studies and practical experiences across the Baltic Sea Region (and beyond)?\nHow can multi-use be effectively implemented to reduce spatial conflicts and foster coexistence across sectors and the land-sea interface?\n\nTarget audience:\nMSP practitioners\, local/regional/national policymakers\, coastal planners\, offshore/coastal infrastructure developers\, port authorities\, sectoral stakeholders\, researchers\, and others involved in marine and coastal spatial planning and Sustainable Blue Economy development \n\n\nFor more details on the event’s agenda and registration\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Joint Online webinar "Ocean Multi-use in Action: EU projects and pilots"
DESCRIPTION:Offshore wind farms are currently being planned across various regions in Europe. As different industries seek to operate in the same spaces\, the concept of multi-use becomes increasingly important. \nJoin this webinar to discover more about multi-use projects and pilot initiatives taking place throughout Europe. In this session\, you’ll gain valuable insights and highlights from the following projects:\n\nOLAMUR (NO) Funded under The EU HORIZON Framework Programme\, OLAMUR will contribute to the EU Mission Ocean by bringing together multi-use low-trophic aquaculture (MU-LTA) related key sectors\, to demonstrate sustainable commercial solutions for both the North and the Baltic Sea. OLAMUR will establish three pilot demonstration sites where seaweed and blue mussels will be grown within windfarms or in the vicinity of a trout farm.\n\nULTFARMS (NL) Project is a pioneering Horizon Europe Ocean Mission project that is set to transform the future of Low-Trophic Aquaculture (LTA) systems. Our project is designed to optimise production of LTA systems in harsh offshore conditions and low-salinity environments through the integration of innovative engineering\, technical\, ecological\, and biological processes. ULTFARMS will generate a profitable\, sustainable\, and ecological production chain of low-trophic level species\, such as seaweed and molluscs\, in offshore wind farms located in the North Sea and Baltic Sea\n\nMULTI-USE FOR MORE SEAFOOD (SE) The project’s goal is to increase knowledge about multi-use between different production methods at sea and strengthen the value chains of seafood production on land. The project will serve as a neutral collaboration platform where different perspectives meet\, with the aim of facilitating new innovations along the seafood value chain. By strengthening networks and relationships and promoting dialogue across regional boundaries\, the project aims to build capacity for sustainable food production at sea in coexistence with other activities. \nRegistration is now open!\nReserve your seat here.
